IT ALL STARTED IN 1982 . . .
With an original $25 investment in articles of incorporation, EANDC grew out of community organizing efforts that began in East Akron during the 1970s. The goal was to improve access to safe and affordable housing. Today we are still working in that tradition through the strategic development of properties in Summit and Stark Counties, educating the community in homeownership, increasing energy efficiency in low-income homes and providing quality places for people to live.

EANDC incorporated as a 501©3 non-profit housing development organization.

Began performing an Energy Audit program that has invested over $40M dollars in Energy Efficiency programming.

EANDC developed its first of many Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects.

The LEAD program was born and over 15 years it would abate lead in over 1,500 homes while investing over $25M dollars. Also, in 1998 EANDC’s Property Management Department was created.

EANDC opened Middlebury Marketplace Place, a 67,500 sq ft shopping center.

This year marked the beginning of EANDC’s Center for Homeownership. EANDC expanded and opened a Property Management office in Canton.

EANDC completed Village of New Seasons, Akron’s first mixed use affordable apartment complex for seniors.

Arlington Veterans Housing was rehabbed and is now home to 10 formerly homeless Veterans.

EANDC purchased the former community center in East Akron bringing staff and programs into one building.

After 35 years, EANDC’s founding CEO and President Grady P. Appleton retired.

Cheryl L. Stephens was hired as EANDC’s new President and CEO.

EANDC purchased its first market-rate project, Spicer Village which consists of 6 garden apartments and 30 townhome apartments.

IPromise Housing, a 50-unit apartment building, 15M dollar project for families is under construction.
