Summit County provides relief from heat

 

Summit County to Open Cooling Centers

For Residents to Get Out of the Heat

Summit County residents are urged to use caution during the extreme heat we are to be experiencing over the next three days.

Beginning tomorrow, July 20, 2011 at 9:00 am, Cooling Centers will be open at the following locations in Summit County. These Centers are a place for Summit County residents to get out of the heat elements in an air conditioned facility.

The facility will offer water and seating only. Bring any food, medications and necessities as well as coolers/containers that individuals may need during their stay. No storage or refrigeration will be available.

The cooling centers will be located:

  1. American Red Cross of Portage and Summit Counties, 501 West Market Street, Akron, OH 44303
  2. Rimer Community Learning Center, 2370 Manchester Rd, Akron OH 44314
  3. Barberton Chapter of the American Red Cross, 564 W. Tuscarawas Ave,#101, Barberton, OH 44203  
  4. Reminderville Fire Department, 3382 Glenwood Blvd, Reminderville, OH 44202  
  5. Copley United Methodist Church, 1518 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Copley, OH 44321

Hours of operations for the Cooling Centers are 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Cooling Centers will be open as needed. Ample parking will be available. Those without transportation can contact METRO Regional Transit Authority at 330-762-0341.

Restoring Stability: A Save the Dream Ohio Initiative aims to help 26,000 Ohioans

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) announced the launch of Restoring Stability: A Save the Dream Ohio Initiative (Ohio’s Hardest-Hit Funds) at a press briefing held today at the Vern Riffe Center in Columbus. Kimberly A. Zurz, Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce and OHFA Board Chairperson, along with Douglas A. Garver, OHFA Executive Director, led the event detailing each of the programs.

“Helping families fight foreclosure is a critical part of our plan to strengthen Ohio’s communities and our economy,” Governor Ted Strickland said. “Together, we have designed programs that will help thousands of Ohioans stay in their homes while adding stability to the housing market.”
